Channapatna, a small town 60 km from Bengaluru, is known as the 'Toy Town of India'. Artisans here use ivory wood and natural dyes to create smooth, rounded toys that are safe for babies and toddlers.
Cultural Significance
"Channapatna toys received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2005. Tipu Sultan is said to have invited Persian craftsmen to teach the lacquerware technique to local artisans."
